Abstract: This research is a critical analytic study of a poetry collection compiled by Dr. Isa Alabi Abubakar, a contemporary Nigerian Arabic scholar and poet. The work is entitled: “The Collection of ‘Arriyad’ by the Nigerian Poet Isa Alabi Abubakar; A Critical Analytic Study”. The study gives the biography of the poet, his area of origin and the sources of his poetic development. It further analyses his literary works recorded in the collection. This is to highlight the creative values they contain for the researchers and learners, and also to explain more on its literary statuses. The research, which was carried out using the inductive method by analyzing the poems as contained in the collection, was able to also explicate some of the artistic and technical values the poems contain. To this extent, the study discovers that the poet mixed both classical and modern styles in the collection; Classical in terms of music and rhyme, while modern in the content. It further establishes that the poems differ with regard to the artistic values in them; some were excellent, while on the other hand, some were weak. In addition, it was affirmed by the study that the poet used different types of weights and rhymes in the collection. This is for it to accommodate different objectives and topics. Conclusively, the study suggests that researchers and professionals alike shall give more attention to the literary works of the contemporary Arabic poets in Nigeria and the non-Arab region in general. The study also recommends that the poet select and publish the excellent poems in the collection to be titled: “The Summary Collection of Arriyad”.
