Abstract: This study aimed to highlight the practices followed for the disposal of medical waste and its environmental effects in Al Hasahisa Hospital in the State of Jazirah in terms of the process of sorting, collection, transportation, storage, and final disposal. The studying has adopted several methods of collecting information, including writing notes during the field work and making a questionnaire. It is divided into three sections: a section for cleaning workers, a section for health and administrative staff, and a section for uniformed citizens living near the site of final disposal of medical waste. The results showed that Al-Hasaheisa Hospital has a special department for statistics and does not have statistical records about the number of patients and beds and the quantity and quality of waste. Through the study, it was revealed that Al-Hasaheisa Hospital lacks the application of WHO's instructions for the concept of medical waste management, and the lack of awareness among workers in the field of medical waste. The study also showed that Al-Hasaheisa Hospital does not have a medical incinerator for medical waste, and it became clear during the study that some medical waste is burned inside the hospital, which leads to the emission of black smoke, which is a source of toxic gases such as the carcinogenic dioxin. To collect medical waste, these wastes accumulate in front of the hospital entrance and in front of the kidney disease department, and it became clear to the researcher that the hospital does not sort medical waste The study recommended the necessity of implementing the screening system for hazardous and non-hazardous medical waste from the source by proper methods. The study also recommended raising the level of cooperation between the various institutions concerned with medical waste management in order to solve the existing problems to develop this system and strive to search for alternative environmentally sound technologies. Legislation and policies for the management of medical waste for the sake of health and environmental safety.
