Abstract: This research aimed to evaluate the teaching of Tajweed syllabus at secondary school level, the researcher used descriptive research method/ approach, while questionnaire was used as a tool for data collection. After data processing and analysis the following results were reached: Several methods are used in teaching Tajweed syllabus, and the most important ones include recitation method in association to indoctrination method, as well as dialogue and cooperative methods, however groups and problem solving methods were less used. The important role of teacher in teaching Tajweed syllabus is evident in many aspects, and is supported with many factors including specialization, the desire to teach Tajweed, the combination between theoretical and practical aspects, taking into account individual differences, motivating students and linking the syllabus with victory and hereafter. In teaching Tajweed syllabus limited teaching aids are used, such as pictures for illustrations, and the reasons lay behind the shortage of teaching aids in general and Tajweed teaching aids in particular. A variety of evaluation techniques (methods) are used, including continuous evaluation, oral evaluation which suit the nature of Tajweed as well as written evaluation and homework correction; however in some cases the teacher encourages his distinguished students in particular to participate in competition. The teaching of the Tajweed syllabus at secondary school level faces many difficulties, including; larger number of students in one classroom, and insufficient time for theoretical training and practical applications. Based on the findings above, the researcher recommended the following: continuous professional development for Qur’an teachers by insisting continuous teacher’s training. Likewise, it must be insured that Qur’an and Tajweed teachers should be the graduates from the faculty of Holy Qur’an.
