Abstract: The study dealt with the protection of medical personnel and assistance in international humanitarian law. The problem of research is the fact that the adequacy of special protection established by international humanitarian law for medical services personnel during international and non-international armed conflicts. The importance of research stems from the danger of providing medical services during armed conflicts is one of the dangerous tasks that Those who provide these services may be subject to violations amounting to liquidation or torture and humiliation, and although international humanitarian law prohibits discrimination in treatment and enshrines equality between protected groups, the specific nature and An important characteristic of some groups, including medical personnel had to give them some kind of protection that must be commensurate with the professional or the quality of the work they do their condition. The aim of the research is to clarify the specific legal rules established for the protection of medical personnel during all kinds of armed conflicts, and to highlight aspects of protection and guarantees that these individuals enjoy in order to encourage them to perform their work, and to clearly identify medical personnel. The research followed the analytical approach. The study reached several results, the most important of which is that the rules of international humanitarian law are not an end in themselves, but a means to an end so as to preserve protected groups in the face of the reality of armed conflict. The study recommended several recommendations, including the need to include an explicit text in the second additional protocol that includes a clear reference to the definition of medical personnel.
