dc.description.abstract In this research, we discussed the sociolinguistic situation in Al- jazira Aba Island, which is based on a descriptive analytical method, using students questionnaire as a tool of data collection(1200 students),to check the role of language in Aba islandand and see if there is any change in it. The research centers and the decision makers in the Government will benefit from this study. The research was divided into nine chapters: The first chapter deals with the basics. The second chapter deals with the previous studies .The third chapter show the language, and the sociolinguistics situation. The fourth chapter deals with the linguistic policies in Sudan. Chapter five deals with Aba island and its connection with The Mahdia. Chapter 6 deals with the ethnic composition in Aba island. Chapter 7 study the languages situation in &their disperse and recession .Chapter 8 tackle knowledge of languages and their usage. Chapter 9 deals with the conclusion and the recommendations. Then the list of the sources, references, after that the appendices .The study concluded that the total conversion to the Arabic language is inevitable in the near future for many reasons, including: - a) The Arabic is the language of worshiping God In the Islamic Religion. b) The region is a theocratic center for the believers in the idea of Mahdia. c) The teachings of Mahdi and his publications, and sermons are in Arabic. d) Qura'anic schools (Al-Khalawi),spread in all the centers of Ansar, camps. e) The area is surrounded by Arab tribes and the migrants melted in them through intermarriages. f) For Nationalism and national unity ,Arabic is the lingua-franca for all Sudanese &government jobs require Arabic language speakers. g) State support Arabic as the language of education, media and the official language in all government institutions. h) Arabic is the Lingua-franca in trade affairs and markets. i) In the theater of diffusion and decline, Arabic is widely spoken among these groups as the mother language (L1), while the local languages tend to recede, and the foreseeable future predicts the full control of the Arabic language and the full assimilation of these ethnicities en_US
