dc.description.abstract Charis Waddy , the author of “ The Muslim Mind ” was born in Australia ; and she grew up in Jerusalem, where the prevailing common heritage of the monotheistic faiths helped to shape her thoughts. She is the author of “ Women in Muslim History ” and numerous articles on Islamic civilization and its scientific contributions to the world . She graduated at Oxford University in Oriental Languages . For her doctorate at London University she specialized in Arab History . She made an effort to portray the spirit and practice of Islam . In this book , she also attempted to reflect what Muslims believe and how they live . In her tour in The Muslim Mind she wrote about different aspects of the topic including : Islam as a way of life , and the type of mind it aims to build through faith , true belief , worship and full submission to the one God . She wrote about the holy Quran as an expression of divine will and a motivator of thought, the Five Pillars of Islam , the role of Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) in reorganizing human life, and about Arab social and family life , women’s social status , the rights and duties of the individuals and the community , preservation of the rights of minorities in Muslim communities , Arab socialism , and the current political and economic orders compared to the system that Islam suggests . I quote her following words to reflect the core of her attitude towards Islam : “ This is a passing glimpse of Islam , and it has much to offer to our restless world . But it seems to be an abandoned treasure , abandoned by those who bear its name . No wonder they are so different from the glory I describe , and unless they go back to it again , they will remain lost in bewilderment , at the rear of humanity’s procession . For it is the remedy , the light and the guidance from God for them and for the world. ” en_US
