Abstract:
This research aimed to examine to what extend that the strategic management have been applied in the Sudan Open University during the period from 2004 – 2008. The research intended to inspect several things in top of it; the associations of directing the open distance learning to a wide range of learners need to apply strategic management in directing its operation. More over, the university didn’t point out its strengths and weaknesses and consider the affects of that in spotting its goals.
The researcher come across several results the most important of it that open distance learning suite the Sudanese situation because the country short of some basic infrastructure, and by using open distance learning and with little assets the university can reach a lots of students way more than the rest, and that is due to the advancement of technology. All this will reduce the cost of education in general. The researcher fined also that the university goals cover only the delivering the educational message and not managing the education process with clear strategic management. The researcher find also the failing to apply strategic management in the Sudan Open University lead to not having the correct strategic management goals that suite the mission and the working environment of the university, and not to distinguish the strengths, weaknesses, opportunity, threats of the university.
The researcher came at the end of the research to a number of recommendations the most important of it; the Sudan Open University should apply the strategic management in its operation so the university can execute it’s goals and strategic plans that been placed by the university. More over, the university should dispense its mission between its employees so that all the efforts put together towards accomplish the strategic goals.
