Abstract

This research is entitled" Television Programs and their Role in Promoting the Culture of Peace- a descriptive and analytical study of the application of the programme" Speech on Unity and peace" at Al-Shoroug Satellite Channel (2015-2017). The importance of the study stems from the importance of satellite channels and the role they play towards peace issues. The research also aimed to get acquainted with the media message, and the strategy of Al-Shoroug Channel towards promoting the culture of peace through "the Speech on Unity and Peace" program. To achieve these goals, the researcher adopted the descriptive analytical methodology, in addition to the historical methodology. The problem of the study lied in the main question: What role does Al-Shoroug channel play through" the Speech on Unity and Peace" program, in promoting a culture of peace? The researcher used the survey tool as a data collection tool. The data was statistically processed by the computer program “The Statistical Package for Social Sciences” (SPSS version 16). The study reached to several findings, the most important of which: that the unity and peace program has an impact in realizing the goals of the channel, the environment of political tyranny and intolerance in Sudanese society, the channel has achieved media leadership on The Sudanese level and distinction at the regional level, and that government funding has kept the channel away from implementing its strategy as planned. The study recommended paying attention to peace culture programs in terms of preparation and presentation. And attention should be paid to programs that affect the security of the Sudanese citizen and address his problems. The channel should pay attention to its internal policy and accompany abundance in the offers presented to its customers. And interest in giving information and facts to the entire public and impartiality towards higher authorities, and that the channel should follow the policy of independence and impartiality.
