Abstract

This research is entitled: "News Policies: Reflections on Professional Performance in Arab Satellite Channels - case study for Al Jazeera and Al Arabia Channels. The problem under consideration is examination of professionalism of Arab satellite channels, problems resulting from news coverage, relationship between news policies and professional performance in Arab region. The research also answers causes of: arrests, assassinations, photographing prevention and closing down of news offices. Descriptive analytical approach is adopted as research method In addition to the historical approach. One of the main objectives of the research is to identify the repercussion of the news policies on Arab satellite channels and their impact on news production and study the inter relationships between the professional performance and the news policies in the Arab satellite news channel the importance of research lies in the fact that it sets professional guidelines for the relationship between Arab satellite channel and media policies. One of the main findings is that: violation of news policies to countries orientations internally and externally hinders broadcasters and reporters to perform their duties professionally, especially correspondents and delegates working in conflict and crisis areas. Technology has its insights in news industry and in all aspects related to it; therefore Arab satellite channels gave it attention. Arab countries do not allow circulation of some news considering it as national threat, while media professionals believe it is right and freedom of expression. Never the less, workers in those channels do not approach such news because of the fear of negative consequences towards them. The research recommends: appreciation of public freedom, rights, and wishes in various aspects particularly at economic and political levels, as well as the need to establish an effective Arab media system by reducing governmental monopoly over channels and giving the professionals chance to contribute and react positively. Finally, concepts of news in western countries should not act as standards for news industry, the criteria and standards should rather rise from culture and needs of Arab societies
