Title of study: E-Learning and its role in teachers’ training during their service (Evaluation study) (Faculty of Sciences and Technologies of Education and Training (FASTET) Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar) Researcher: Ababacar Diop Supervisor: Professor Moctar Ousmane Alsidick Assistant supervisor: Professor Taha Mohamed Ahmed Matar This study aims to evaluate the role of E-Learning in the training of teachers during their service in the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies of Education and Training (FASTET) at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar, to improve their skills, competence and pedagogical efficiency. What is the attitude of the teachers in relation to the system of E- learning and what are the great obstacles that prevent this system from achieving its objectives? The researcher has adopted the method of descriptive analysis, and the tools set up for the study (namely; a questionnaire to collect information about the obstacles to E-Learning at university, scientific performance slips, scale of tendencies). This study concerns the 2014/2015 school year and has been made on a sample of 155 teacher trainees that are being trained on E-Learning at the faculty. The researcher has used the software package of social statistics (SPSS) with the following methods of statistics: Arithmetic means and frequencies, percentages and standard deviations of Pearson laboratory, correlation coefficient and coefficient of alpha Cronbach to see the ratios of coherence, and the analysis of variance tests (T-Test) to see the differences between the averages. Some of the most important results of the study are: 1. The observation slips have shown the experimental success of the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies of Education and Training, in the training of the teachers to the system of E-Learning and the increase of their skills and competence and pedagogical performance. 2. The study has shown that the teacher trainees’ attitude towards E-Learning is positive. But just at an average rate. So a serious action is needed from the authorities for a support and development of this system in order to achieve the aimed objectives. 3. The study has shown that there are divergences between certain decision-makers and there are also constraints about E-learning at university. Among those obstacles, there are the following: 4. The obstacles specifically related to the teacher trainee in terms of good mastery of the computer science, making research on the internet, ability of using the E-Learning programs of the Moodle system that is planned for the faculty 5. The obstacles related to the environment of the training (school), the availability of a computer and of classrooms equipped with E-Learning devices and the internet, technicians, etc… 6. Financial obstacles , such as smallness of the budget allowed to E-Learning and the expenses for buying expensive computers for teachers and electronic software 7. Technical obstacles due to lack of classrooms with necessary equipment and installations, lack of specialists for production and designing of E-Learning system, lack of technical support to the teachers in their training environment 8. Administrative obstacles, such as little interest of the administrative authorities Given those results, the study has shown the necessity of: a) An increased attention of the authorities for E-Learning at college b) The allowance of an appropriate budget for E-Learning training because the study has revealed that the allocated budget is so weak c) Building classrooms with necessary equipment for E-Learning d) The presence of a technical support and technicians to assist the trainees e) Meeting the trainees’ needs and the technical, environmental and financial demands f) An appropriate training of the teachers about how to use the E-Learning system g) A real participation of the school’s administration to provide for all the requirements for E-Learning at school h) Setting up a control and supervision committee of the teachers who use E-Learningen_US
