dc.description.abstractThe researcher in this study attempts to define applied linguistics, its sources and fields, with the aim of helping Arabic language teachers who teach Arabic as second or foreign language to become familiar with certain concepts pertaining to the teaching of languages. The researcher employs a descriptive analytical method in this study and used questionnaire as a tool of data collection. The research population was choosen from teachers and language experts in the Arabic Language Institute of The International University of Africa. Based on the foregoing measures, the researcher obtaines number of research findings some of which are:- 1. Applied linguistics is characterised by fiexibility, ability to improve learning and change behavior, which also help in the intensification of teaching - learning process, that is why it is a necessity in teaching Arabic language to Arabic natives and foreigners. 2. Foreign language teaching is a complicated process, it is therefore unwise to interprete and explain it through only one language theory. 3. Necessity of undertaking analytical contrastive method side by side with linguistic error detection method so that one method compliment the other. The researcher concludes by providing number of recommendations some of which are:- 1. Necessity of making use of applied linguistics findings and advanced studies together with educationists and experts, studies so to reach the peak of lauguage teaching technique to foreigners. 2. Spreading the spirit of cooperation between the ministry of education and language experts in the feild of languages so to lay solid foundation for language planning programme. The researcher offers the following suggestions:- 1. Organising workshop in the specialised institutes of languages on the training of teachers periodically on applied linguistic new findings, for its importance in language teaching. 2. Organising discussion forum (seminars) monthly between teachers of Arabic language to foreigners so to exchange experiences and come up with possible solutions.en_US
