| Abstract: | Abstract: This study aims to identify effect and role played by civil society organizations to achieve human security, and contribution of organizations’ projects and programs in this domain. The statement of the problem exemplifies in fact that Sudan as one of the third world countries encounter several natural and man-made disasters such as: floods, wars, conflicts, etc that created complicated human situation and caused asylum seeking, displacement, insecurity and overpopulation especially in Khartoum .This led civil society and foreign organizations intervene to alleviate crisis and minimize negative effects through provision of assistance. The study examines the effect and role played by civil society organizations in general and Human Security Initiative Organization (Maaman) from 2009-2014 in particular to achieve human security. Hence force, the following hypotheses need to be verified and interpreted: civil society organizations play a vital role in achieving human security in Sudan, projects and activities implemented by civil society organizations contributed to achieve human security, several obstacles hindered civil society organizations to achieve human security. Information gathering tools are used as tool for hypotheses verification whereas descriptive analysis and historical, are used as study method. The study comprises three chapters: chapter one containing research preliminaries and literature review, followed by chapter covering: origin and evolution of civil society organizations ,concept of human security , origin and evolution of human security, dimensions of human security and role of civil society organizations in achieving human security . Chapter three covers: case study, field work procedures, hypotheses verification, findings and recommendations. Eventually, the study concluded to the most important : civil society organizations contribute to achieve human security in Sudan, the increasing number of national organizations in Sudan response to almost all humanitarian dimensions of human security, and bridge services gap , civil society organizations in Sudan encounter hindrance and challenges while proceeding to achieve human security, civil society organizations suffer from shortage of financial sources as far as depending on United Nations agencies for support and fund according to projects submitted to. The study recommended propagation for culture of volunteerism, calling national agencies for fund and support, cultivation of efforts in domain of humanitarian work, raising people’ awareness towards human security, prioritization of human security in all programs and plans, in addition to removal of probable human security hindrance. |
