| Abstract: | The most important cities in Wadi Hadramount depend on the groundwater as the main supply for their drinking water. Those wells are located in the nearby valleys of the cities. This study aims at giving a clear image for drinking water and evaluating its condition in the main cities (Seiyoun, Tarim, Al-Qatn and Shibam) in Wadi Hadramout. It also aims at finding out if those waters are good for drinking according to their physical, chemical and biological properties that match the standard specifications of the World Health Organization and the Yemeni standard specification. According to the study, it is found that the color, the temperature, the conductor and the dissolved salts (TDS) of the chemical, physical and geological properties for each city was correspondent to the international and Yemeni allowed standards. It is also, geologically, shown that drinking waters in the main cities in Wadi Hadramout are free from any kind of bacterial pollution. The chemical properties evaluation has also shown that some of them have less level than that which is allowed in Yemen and internationally, whereas some others have a higher level than that which is allowed such as mercury and cilinium whose concentration may make drinking water unsafe. |
