| Abstract: | This study is titled: Arabic language teaching curriculum in Kenyan secondary schools (An evaluative analytical study based on second language teaching curriculum criteria ). The study aimed at evaluating the Arabic language teaching curriculum in Kenyan secondary schools, an evaluation that includes all elements of the curriculum, which are: objectives, content, teaching methods and evaluation. The researcher followed the descriptive method, and used questionnaire, interview and observation to achieve the goals of the study. The study sample consisted (n=50) teachers, who were selected through random sampling. The study found the following results: 1- The objectives of the arabic langauge curriculum are clear to the teacher, measurable, formulated from the students' local environment requirements, and linked to the students' desires. 2- The content of the arabic language curriculum is linked to the objectives, supports the acquisition of the four language skills, provides adequate and diverse language exercises, and linked to the students' local environment. 3- The arabic language curriculum teaching methods are based on language teaching through the four language skills. 4- Grammar and translation method is the common method in teaching the arabic langauge curriculum by an average percentage of arabic language teachers at public secondary schools in Kenya. 5- The blackboard and the textbook are the means used in teaching the arabic langauge curriculum. 6- The diversity of the arabic language exams between oral and written, and between easy, medium and difficult exams. The researcher concluded with a number of recommendations and some proposals for future studies in the same field. |
