dc.description.abstractThis research entitled; “Designing Educational Counseling Program to Enhance Self-esteem and Academic Adjustment amongst the Secondary School Students in the Republic of Malawi”; aimed at designing and implementing the Educational Counselling Program to enhance self-esteem and academic adjustment and to measure its effectiveness. It also aimed at knowing if there are any statistical differences on the effectiveness of the program based on sex and school level (form two and form three). The researcher adopted descriptive and semi- experimental approach to conduct his research as he also used a counselling needs questionnaire, self –esteem questionnaire, academic adjustment questionnaire, he also used the educational counselling program as a research tool, whereas population of the survey study composed of 143 students, where the sample of the study composed of 20 students for the experimental study. The research came up with the following results: the educational counselling program to enhance self-esteem and academic adjustment amongst the secondary school students in the republic of Malawi is effective with high level. There is a statistically significant difference on the effectiveness of the counselling program to enhance self-esteem based on sex in favor of male students. There is no statistically significant difference in the effectiveness of the educational counselling program based on their secondary level. There is also no statistically significant difference in the effectiveness of the educational counselling program to enhance academic adjustment based on sex and school level. The researcher proposed some important recommendation as follows; the ministry of education should establish guidance and counselling department and also have job description for the counselor in different levels of education. The faculties of education and teachers training centers should benefit from the results of this study in training teachers so that they can help in enhancing self-esteem and academic adjustment amongst the secondary school students. The media should publish this program so that the parents should be aware of their role in enhancing self-esteem and academic adjustment of secondary school students.en_US
