dc.description.abstractThe tittle of this thesis is The Societal Values in General Educational Curriculum in Nigeria and Its Manifestation in Social Behavior ( In the perspectives of teachers, educators and experts) The thesis examines the demarcation between social behavior and Islamic social values contained in the Islamic Studies general secondary schools syllabus. The thesis aimed at clarifying the degree of availability of Islamic social values in general educational curriculum in Nigeria and the extent of its manifestation in individual and social behavior in Ogun, Oyo and Lagos states, Nigeria. It also aimed at examining the role of the educational medium in accomplishing the manifestation of Islamic social values in Nigerian society as a whole and the South-West of Nigeria in particular. The researcher applied Descriptive Research Methodology and used the instrument of questionnaire and interview for data collection, the selected sample of the study amount to 725 teachers and 13 educational experts. The research finally arrived at some findings, important of which are the following: The level of comprehending the social values in the general secondary schools curriculum by the leaners is average which affects its manifestation in life. The degree of keeping to each value of family establishment, child upbringing, goodness to parent as well as keeping the family relationship and goodness to neighbor is also average due to lack of manifestation which displaying its aims and objectives. The level of role in which the educational medium in actualizing the manifestation of Islamic societal values is similarly average, although ,it varies from one medium to another. The research also generates some recommendations important of which are the following: Revising the way on how the goals and philosophical dimension of the general secondary schools Islamic curriculum which also stands as the main reference for its design can be identified and bringing out its aims in a convincing manner. Training of Islamic Studies teachers on methodology of teaching Islamic values by developing teaching skills in teachers.  Families are advised to revise their method of establishing the family in the light of Islamic social values and giving good example to the children to emulate in keeping with these values.en_US
