Abstract:
The topic of this research is THE METHODOLOGY OF TEACHING QURAN IN GOVERNMENT PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA, PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS- A CASE STUDY OF KANO STATE. The research aims at finding out the objectives of teaching the Holy Quran, its methodology the associated instructional activities, means of inculcating its knowledge and ways of evaluating students in these schools. The research methodology employed by the researcher is a Descriptive Analytical method and the research tools employed are observation, questionnaire and interview. The research consists of five chapters. The first chapter comprises of research fundamentals; research problem, importance, objectives, questions, hypothesis, methodology, tools, scope and terminologies. The second chapter consists of theoretical framework, literature review which further consists of the following units; unit 1: Definition of Nigeria and Kano state. Unit 2: About the Holy Quran. Unit 3 Teaching Quran in Government Primary schools and their problems. Unit 4 method of teaching Q uran and its instructional communication, unit 5 tabling out the methodology in use when teac analysis hing Quran in Northern Nigeria n Primary schools and lesson planning model, unit 6 literature review. The third chapter is as follows; field research, research population, methodology, sampling. Chapter four consists of questionnaire and interview analysis. Chapter five consists of conclusion, findings, recommendations, proposals, appendix, sources and references. Research Findings ‐it becomes obvious through this study that objectives set for teaching the Holy Quran are consistent. ‐The traditional method of teaching the Holy Quran is not effective as teachers lack required training on how to teach the Holy Quran competently. ‐There is no application of modern audio‐visual teaching aids in these schools save the use of chalkboard, which does not make teaching learning interesting. ‐There are very few activities in the process of teaching in these schools ‐Teachers in these schools use various methods to evaluate students’ performance individually and collectively before and after each lesson on monthly basis. ‐Research Recommendations: ‐Islamic educational supervisors should be reinforce the application of all laid down rules of teaching at every instructional step and make sure they provide model for each topic using modern teaching technology. ‐ Quran teachers should do lesson planning regularly. ‐Quran teachers should make good introduction ‐Quran teachers should apply the use of silent, vocal, collective and individual reading techniques in accordance with each step.
