| Abstract: | This study aimed at revealing the problems that face the teaching of reading skills in secondary schools in Zanzibar town, and identify those problems and their causes. The study population consisted of Arabic language teachers at these schools. The researcher chose research sample randomly that reached sixty-four male and female teachers. The researcher followed in his study descriptive method; so he used the questionnaire addressed to the Arabic language teachers as tool. In the analysis, the researcher used simple percentage to get the results. Some of the most important findings the researcher reached are as follows : 1- Secondary schools play important role in teaching Arabic language in Zanzibar. 2- Secondary schools in Zanzibar suffer from the lack of experts and trained teachers of Arabic language which hence leads to difficulties in teaching reading skills. 3- The curriculum used is not relevant to the level of students and does not help them to learn reading skills. 4- The shortage of experience among the teachers hinders the process of teaching reading skills. 5- There is the shortage of teaching materials for teaching reading skills. 6- Some teachers neglect to use suitable methods for teaching reading skills. 7- The absence of choosing conducive techniques for teaching reading skills is among the difficulties facing reading skills. |
