Abstract

The research handled the social media sites in spreading rumors and how to reduce them by an applied study on a sample of Sudanese universities students in the period 2015_2016 . The study aimed to identify the extension of the spread of rumors in the social media sites in addition to identifying ways and methods that can cut down the rumors and also it aimed to identify the rumors and how they spread out and to find out the advantages and disadvantages of social media sites. The researcher depended on the study on descriptive process and it was adopted for the purpose of collecting data and information and then analyzing and interpreting and coming out with conclusions, and also the researcher used the questionnaire as a main tool In addition to the observation, The research included in theoretical and applied frameworks to five chapters by many of detectives. and the research came out by numbers of results, including: • The study confirmed that a large percentage of the respondents are using social media sites. • a lot of respondents agreed on that social media sites help to spread rumors. • Respondents confirmed that social media sites have contributed negatively to the social relations. The research came out with a number of recommendations: Establishing a supervisory law on social media sites, as researcher recommends families to monitor their children and know what they are watching in social media sites, and appoint a competent official body to control rumors and specially internet rumors, Eventually create seminars and lectures and pages in order to upgrade the awareness of the damage social media sites
