Abstract

This study aims at knowing the characteristics of information systems and their role in enhancing competitive advantage of the United Capital Bank and also to know the obstacles which hinder the bank abilities to attain competitive advantage and to explore the effectiveness of the information system which the bank is using and explore its role in its decision-making. process. The researcher used the descriptive analysis method through using a questionnaire in data collection. The researcher had reached the following results: The information system used by the United Capital Bank is not affected by its employees situations, wishes and actions in the same level it is affected by the situations, wishes and actions of its customers who demand the banks to provide modern systems in providing to them an adequate banking system. The United Capital Bank is fully aware of the importance of information security as well as the security of the bank and to safeguard customer accounts confidentiality in addition to setting a comprehensive plan for information security and the bank at the same time. In its operations the United Capital Bank relies greatly on ob modern technology and on the automated system in addition to increasing the numbers of its specialized staff and by this method it reduces time, effort and cost. The United Capital Bank is widely applying the information system in its operations specially in its units and divisions. The bank’s management is keen on benefiting from using information and communication systems and to benefit from the available skills and experiences and also to invest its human cadre and their knowledge in the field of Renaissance in order to reach a good standard of coexistence and continuity with the world around and to cope with progressive developments in this information decade. Study’s Main Recommendations: confirm the importance of information system as an important variable in determining the strategic choice of competition and consequently confirm the bank’s interest in information element, its systems and treatment through the development of the organizational chart of information system and to create specialized circles for the system and to set clear plans for its operations. It is important to set an adequate information systems strategy in the frame of the bank’s general strategy and to follow up its execution and evaluation in such a way that could realize the bank’s objectives and to protect the bank’s and its customers information from dangers caused by any tampering with it and to make backup copies to safeguard the bank’s safety and security and to increase staff awareness if the importance of information systems and their role in creating competitive advantage to the bank.
