Abstract

This is a media focused study that inspects media frameworks in a diverse and polarized continental community by studying factors contributing to the current un-healthy media spectrum. This unfavorable media spectrum is manifested in the unbalanced flow of information and technology between the countries in the continent and center countries, demographic growth, conflicts, failures in using technology to the greater benefit which led to a continental lack of philosophy that governs the strategic relationship with media and hence the ability to manage its conflicts and reduced its role to being a reactive one. On the other hand; the content has a heavy colonial background that is still influencing its media and in some cases creating core country compliant African media. Another observation is also evident in government institutions owning media or direct links with international media powerhouse institutions. This unbalanced relationship with the media has influenced core countries media to only choose to report what they see as valid big news which is blown out of proportion and usually its negative, or crises related, or conflict related, or serves its own purposes at the same time it chooses to neglect news about rebuilding of national economies, cultural and social news. The study also observed another form of compliance with core countries media streams by adopting a consumer life style that drives nations from its own issues, inhibiting its economies, this is usually more evident in the cases of direct funding and advertising as a tool that has a negative effect on media freedom by giving advertisers the
