Abstract

It is an undisputable fact that the conflict between the good and the evil is standing and running till the day of resurrection. Moreover, the archenemies of Islam leave no stone unturned to deteriorate and devastate it. Therefore, it is the intrinsic role of the Muslim preachers and thinkers to defend Islam and Muslims against the evil western thoughts and anti-Muslim movements. An ostentatious example of those ardent advocators of Islam is Sheikh Mohammed Al Ghazali – May Allah have mercy with him. This current study tackles Al Ghazali’s consecrated efforts and pursuits to confront the evils of the western anti-Islam thought. The study embarks with an outline of Al Ghazali’s biography encompassing his personal life, his sheikhs, students, and intellectual works. Then, the study delineates the sheikh’s great role in neutralizing the western evil thoughts such as colonization, evangelization, and orientalism. The study smoothly goes ahead to tackle Al Ghazali’s efforts in stopping the westerners’ cultural intellectual invasion of Muslims, secularism and communism. In a self-effacement manner, I have got to own up that Mohammed Al Ghazali’s life has been a one bristling with a plethora of exploits that cannot be counted and accounted for merely in one study like mine. The study concludes that Al Ghazali – may Allah have mercy with him – has exerted a great effort to face such malignant thoughts. He besides has come up with lots of solutions and suggestions to the problems of the Muslim world. He has been such a crystal clear example of a person who has wholeheartedly devoted his life for the sake of his religion. He has tried a variety of ways by which he could defend his religion such as teaching, travelling, writing, bearing patiently with a lot of afflictions and adverse circumstances by the then political regimes, etc. Likewise, scholars nowadays have to follow his suit and take him as a guiding example.
