Abstract: This study aimed at investigated the foreign direct investment and impact on the balance of payments, the constraint facing it, engendering the solutions and setting forth a clear-cut investment plan. The problem of the research is manifested in whether the foreign direct investment has an impact on the balance of payments in the Sudan. The study consisted of four chapters. Chapter one is an introductory one which comprised the general framework of the study. Chapter two tackled the foreign direct investment. As to chapter three it considered the balance of payments and chapter four dealt with the applied framework of the phenomenon which is the subject matter of the study in the Sudan besides the finding and the recommendations. The most important findings: Among the most important findings which were attained by the researcher are: 1. The flow of the foreign direct investment has contributed to the improvement of the economic performance in the Sudan through the making up of the balance of payments deficit, creating additional job opportunities and increasing the rates of economic growth. 2. The study showed that there is an increase in the size of the foreign direct investment flows in the Sudan during the period (2006 – 2010). Which is the life span of the five year plan (2007 – 2011) in comparison with the year 2006, as a base year. The most important recommendations: The following are the most important recommendations: 1. To activate the role of the economic counsellorships in the Sudan's embassies abroad, to coordinate the reception of the foreign investors and to fulfill their procedures through the Ministry of Investment as a focal point. 2. To work with the higher council for investment and the relevant au to solve the problem which obstruct the foreign investment in the Sudan.
