Abstract

This research discussed the factors that affected the management process of crises in Sudan (the Abyei crisis 2005-2015). The problem we took up in this study is the large amount of time it took to solve the Abyei crisis, despite the large amount of efforts made to stop war and achieve peace in Sudan. The main questions are: What are the factors that affected the process of achieving peace? What caused the Abyei crisis? And to what extent did the crisis reach? The research aimed to inspect, analyze and determine the factors that affected the Abyei crisis and to conclude the factors that disturbed the management of the crisis, and what are crisis aftermaths. The methods used are the historical, descriptive and case study methods. The research reached in its finding that the benefits of early alarm systems, the importance of planning in managing such crisis, the urge to disarm the region, and the contributions to minimize the chances of the next generation inheriting the conflict in Sudan. Tribalism and miscalculation in making decisions were the two main problemsin the crisis. Also, the time needed to manage the Abyei crisis was unacceptably long and forign intervention was necessary to stop the conflict. Abyei is not concedered a joint government territory. The main recommendations made in this study emphasize on the importance of planning, early alarm systems for crises management, solving crises in swifter means, developing the territory, ending violence, implementing the Disarmament Demobilization Reintegration program (DDR) and referring to the International Criminal Court in case of the renewal of the conflict
