| Abstract: | The title of this study is "The Quran and its Place in the Education of Mankind: An Applied Study on the North-Central Zone of Nigeria". The study deals with the Qur'an as a reliable source of education in this contemporary era. The researcher chose the Middle Belt of Nigeria as an area of study; with the background that both Muslims and others coexist in the area and it is one of the six geographical regions that make up Nigeria today. The main objective of the study is to determine that the Qur'an has a great place and necessary role to play towards education, which requires taking it as the source and its application in the field of education. As a field based research, the tools used are questionnaire and interview for collection of data and information. The study group population was 4700, from which 740 were selected as the sample study which is (15%), in addition to 66 expert educationists for interview. The analytical method and descriptive statistics were used. The study is divided into six chapters, and each chapter consists of several subdivisions. The research finally arrived at the following conclusions: (1) That the Qur’an has a wide-range place in the education of mankind among both Muslims and others in the study zone. Despite the zone is governed by the secular laws, even though the challenges do not restrain them from honoring the position of the Qur’an. (2) That despite the fact of stability of the position of the Qur’an among the Nigerian people, nevertheless, there are intellectual efforts and opinions opposing the Qur’an in the field of educational system. (3) That in the state of turning away from the Qur’an the consequence is a bad risks, and that has been proven in the reality of the society. (4) The study shows that the possibility of utilization of the Qur’an in the various fields of education. (5) And that strengthening the position of the Qur’an in the educational domain is a responsibility of the educational institutions. The study also comes out with a set of recommendations among which are: (1) Striving towards the upgrading the position of the Qur’an and uplifting it from the traditional circles to the level of action educationally and intellectually, especially in the educational institutions. (2) Taking proper scientific procedures towards the correction of the opinions opposing the status of the Qur’an in the education system. (3) Consideration of the Qur’an and the Prophetic Sunna by taking them as the basic references for the educational thought. (4) Taking on the Qur’an in our educational system to reduce the weight of hazards and deviations that appear as a result of not taking the instructions of Divine Revelation. (5) And benefiting from the Qur’an in the education sectors through application of Qur’anic information from the teachings and instructions regarding the domains of universal sciences. |
