Abstract

This research aims at investigating the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on economic development in Sudan. At the same time it deals with the laws and rules regulating investment, in a way that helps encourage the economic policies related to economic development. The research attempts to identify the effect of foreign investment on economic variables as a main factor in the development process. The analytical descriptive method and the Statistical Method have been used to achieve the goals of the research. The key question of the research is about the role that can be played by foreign direct investment in the development process in Sudan. The research adopts three hypotheses: There is a direct relationship between foreign direct investment and Gross National Product (GNP). The foreign direct investment has an impact on the economic development in Sudan. There is a respective impact of the investment laws in Sudan in attracting foreign investment. The study came out with the following main results: There is a direct relationship between foreign direct investment and the Gross National Product in Sudan, which indicates that foreign investment affect economic growth in Sudan during the study period. The most important recommendation is that: Making investment procedures easy , considering resolution of conflicts and internal instability , sustaining peace keeping efforts , considering the strong relation with suitable investment environment, also giving special care to the industrial sector for it is leading role in subsidizing the agricultural and other related development sectors .
