Abstract: This research aims at knowing the teachers' competence in teaching and its relationship with the academic achievement in reading skill for the first class secondary. The researcher followed the descriptive approach, she used the questionnaire as a tool to collect data, the sample was (25) teachers – (males and females) of Arabic language at the secondary schools, Khartoum Locality, the sample was chosen simple random from the population of the research. The researcher has reached to a number of findings, the most important are: 1- The competence of teaching which are necessary for forming the objectives for the teacher of Arabic language, secondary stage, which will help to raise the academic achievement of the students. 2- The competence of teaching which are necessary for the teacher of Arabic language, secondary stage, will enable to execute the content by perfect planning of lessons. 3- There are statistical differences between the competence of teaching the Arabic teacher, secondary stage, and the academic achievement for the students of the first year secondary. 4- The teaching competence will give the teacher of Arabic language, secondary stage, the ability to form the specific aims with different types and to measure them. The researcher recommended the following: 1- The responsible offices and people have to give care to the teacher of Arabic language, by qualifying and training and acquiring the needed competences. 2- Continuous insulation for the teachers of Arabic language during their profession to cope with development. 3- Books and references are to be available for the teacher. 4- To develop the teaching competences in a modern way as they were down by the developed countries. -the research also offers a number proposals to complete the presentation.
